I used snowbreeze 2.5.1, created a custom firmware of 4.3.1 and restored following snowbreeze instructions. Had some errors not remembering but it went through.
I was using it for few days and thought of cleaning up my phone & redoing it.
I repeated the above process but got iphone 3gs stuck in pwned DFU mode. I tried various options:
- Repeated the process, many times (using tinyumbrella for 4.3.1 SHSH as Apple is now at 4.3.2), did NOT work
- Tried clicking exit recovery from tinyumbrella-4.30.05.exe, did NOT work
- Tried fix recovery option on tiny umbrella, did NOT work
- Restored back to iphone 3.1.3 (while phone was in Pwned recovery mode). Able to get it working (Required AT&T sim, Spirit & Spirit Fixer, ultrasnow).
- Repeated again with my custom firmware generated with Snowbreeze, did NOT work
- Repeated again with Snowbreeze & generated the custom firmware again
- Tried using iBooty, did NO help
- downloaded LibUSB & irecovery-0.3.2-win32, it did NOT help
- tried running redSnow (though i used snowbreeze) to install cydia or few other mix of options to let it reboot from DFU, did NOT work
FINALLY WHAT WORKED
- I restored the original 4.3.1 (i was already on 6.15 firmware, i have shsh saved for it & 3.1.3)
- I stopped itunes once the restore started and while it was in the middle of completion (progress bar on iphone was around 75% when i stopped)
- Got a message on itunes of finish & a timer of 10 seconds to reboot
- Now it started going into the restore screen (itunes icon with no slider)
- Reboot, exit recovery from tinyumbrella, fixrecovery from tiny umbrella did NOT Help
- So now i was in this recovery loop screen

- I downloaded the Fixrecovery tool (from tinyumbrella website) & zlib. Here is some more details from video link

2) Zlib1.dll: ----- this ones a bit tricky to download...heres and easy way to download this...click on the link and you"ll see a bunch of links for free registry scans...ignore those and scroll down and you will "DOWNLOAD THE ZLIB1.DLL FIXER TOOL" IGNORE THAT and right under that you will see "or you can download zlib1.dll here" click that!!!! A window will pop up and then click "download zlib1.dll"

- I have put the zlib file & fixrecovery43.exe on desktop
- Started fixrecovery43
- Rebooted the iphone to DFU mode (shutdown, press power & home button for 10 secs, release power button & continue hold home button)
- Fixrecovery detects and starts doing his things
- After reboot my phone is back in action
- I did the jailbreak using redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc12, used iClarified.com for steps
- Configured as a new iPhone in itunes, did a basic sync
- Used ultrasn0w for unlock
I am back with my phone working,
